Women in Aviation Take Flight in Hamilton
Members of The Ninety-Nines, the international organization of women pilots, are visiting Hamilton Municipal Airport today for a special Glider 101 experience with the Hamilton Soaring Club. Aviation leader Rene Banglesdorf will also discuss aviation careers and opportunities in the aerospace industry.
Hamilton Municipal Airport will welcome a very special group of visitors today as members of The Ninety-Nines, Inc.®, the international organization of licensed women pilots, arrive for an exciting day of aviation education and soaring adventure.
Hosted in partnership with the Hamilton Soaring Club, the visit will introduce participants to the world of glider aviation through a “Glider 101” experience complete with demonstrations, hands-on learning, and opportunities to see the beauty of silent flight up close.
The Ninety-Nines — often simply called “The 99s” — have a rich history dating back to 1929 and include some of the most accomplished women aviators in the world. The organization was famously championed by aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart, who served as its first president. Today, the group continues to inspire and support women in aviation through education, mentorship, and outreach.
One of the highlights of the visit will be a presentation and discussion led by Rene Banglesdorf, nationally recognized aviation leader, entrepreneur, and advocate for aviation careers. Banglesdorf will share insights into opportunities within the aviation industry and encourage young people and aspiring pilots to explore the many career paths available in flight, aerospace, and aviation services.
The Hamilton Soaring Club’s glider demonstrations promise to be a memorable experience for visitors and locals alike. Unlike powered aircraft, gliders rely on natural air currents to stay aloft, creating a peaceful and uniquely scenic flying experience. The event is designed to introduce newcomers to the fundamentals of soaring while showcasing the growing aviation community in Hamilton.
Events like this highlight Hamilton’s continued investment in aviation, education, and unique experiences that bring people together from across Texas and beyond. Hamilton Municipal Airport continues to serve not only as an important transportation asset, but also as a hub for learning, recreation, and community engagement.
Whether you are an aviation enthusiast, curious about flight, or simply interested in seeing something new, today’s gathering is a reminder that big adventures can begin right here in Hamilton.
