Hamilton EDC Celebrates Service, Builds on Progress & Looks Ahead

Economic development is about more than the next project.

It is about building a community where businesses can succeed, people can invest with confidence, and Hamilton is prepared when the right opportunities come along.

As the Hamilton Economic Development Corporation looks toward a new fiscal year, we are taking a moment to recognize the people who help guide that work, reflect on the progress made over the past year, and look ahead to what comes next.

Thank You for Your Service

This year, HEDC extends its appreciation to Richard Buchanan for his service on the Hamilton Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors.

Serving on an economic development board requires more than attending meetings. Board members are asked to weigh long-term investments, consider the responsible use of public funds, support local businesses and development projects, and make decisions that may shape Hamilton for years to come.

We are grateful to Richard for the time, perspective, and service he contributed to HEDC and to the Hamilton community.

Meet the Hamilton EDC Board of Directors

The Hamilton Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors includes:

  • Riley Gardner — President

  • Justin Frasier — Vice President

  • Mary Owen — Secretary

  • Mandy Blackwell — Treasurer

  • Terry Baize — Board Member

  • Luke Downs — Board Member

  • James Hooper — Board Member

Together, the Board brings a range of business, financial, civic, property, and community perspectives to the table.

That diversity matters because economic development touches nearly every part of a community — from businesses and jobs to housing, infrastructure, downtown revitalization, quality of life, and the long-term financial health of Hamilton.

Building a Stronger Foundation

The past year has been about both moving projects forward and strengthening the organization behind them.

HEDC continued working toward completion of major development commitments, including the Tractor Supply project, supported local business and property investments, advanced work surrounding future redevelopment opportunities, and continued its significant investment in Downtown Hamilton.

At the same time, the Board took important steps to strengthen HEDC itself.

A new Governance Framework was adopted, and the Corporation's bylaws are being updated to provide greater clarity, consistency, and accountability for how HEDC operates and makes decisions.

Those changes may not always be the most visible part of economic development, but they matter.

Resilient communities are built on strong foundations. Clear policies, responsible financial management, thoughtful planning, and consistent decision-making help ensure that HEDC is prepared not only for today's opportunities, but for the opportunities Hamilton may face five, ten, or twenty years from now.

Looking Ahead

Hamilton does not need to become somewhere else to be successful.

Our opportunity is to build on what already makes this community valuable while addressing the barriers that can hold future investment back.

That means continuing to support existing businesses. It means investing strategically in infrastructure and downtown. It means addressing redevelopment and housing opportunities. It means preparing sites and properties for productive use. And it means being ready to work with businesses and investors whose projects are a good fit for Hamilton.

Not every economic development effort produces an immediate ribbon cutting. Some of the most important work happens long before a project is visible — building relationships, solving problems, improving properties, planning infrastructure, strengthening programs, and creating the conditions that allow investment to happen.

That is the work HEDC will continue into the year ahead.

Economic development is ultimately an investment in Hamilton's ability to remain strong, adaptable, and resilient while creating opportunities for the people and businesses who choose to call this community home.

We are grateful to the residents who have served HEDC over the years, to our current Board for stepping forward to lead, and to the businesses, property owners, community organizations, and local partners who continue to invest in Hamilton.

We are proud of the progress being made — and even more focused on building what comes next.
